Dating back to the streets of early 20th century Paris in the barrios of Montmarte and Montparnasse, NYC's SOHO in the 70s, Chelsea in the 90s, Brooklyn and the Lower East Side more recently, or east London's contemporary scene, artist enclaves have often been the heart and soul of their countries' most influential art movements while providing the cultural pulse of urban centers. JP Paul documents the life and times of artists and musicians through institutions experienced, including the iconic CBGB's and Max's Kansas City in Manhattan, Kuala Lumpur's downtown Changkat neighborhood,  the former Tobacco Road in downtown Miami, holder of the state of Florida's first liquor license, and Penang's historic Georgetown core.

The original Happenings series of the early 00's used image transfers, acrylic and Cintiq drawings. The newer works are constructed digitally and combine pigment inks over hand-prepared recycled canvas.
